This is mostly an usability issue present in all platforms supported by
VLC (I just checked 1.0.1 on Windows). Upstream trac isn't available at
the moment.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vlc

  Steps to reproduce
  1. Launch VLC
  2. Click on Media > Open a network stream (CTRL + N)
  3. Paste an address with an appended space character (often copied by accident)

- Since the character is unvisible, the problem is not easy to discover and the error message is not useful ("VLC cannot open...").
+ Since the character is invisible, the problem is not easy to discover and the error message is not useful ("VLC cannot open...").

VLC shouldn't take into account a space appended at the end of the
  address.
