Thank you for reporting this bug and including a procedure to reproduce
it. Jaunty has its fair share of blender problems more serious than this
one (it is completely unusable on many systems). Many of those have now
been fixed in karmic, which also sports a new ffmeg, which an updated
blender has been linked to. I have tried to reproduce the bug on an
updated karmic, but the rendering went fine. Please let us know whether
you still have this problem on karmic.

I hope that we will get rid of the most serious blender bugs in time for
karmic.
