[Bug 460969] [NEW] Cannot install gnome meta package from 9.10 Kubuntu because of unmet dependency

Public bug reported:

I have a fresh Kubuntu 9.10 install. I wanted to install gnome, but it
fails. The package gnome-vfs-obexftp is not found, but it seems it is no
more used for 9.10.

samuel at bioserver:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 9.10
Release:        9.10
samuel at bioserver:~$ sudo apt-get install gnome
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
