Confirming the same issue on Karmic's rt kernel on 64bit.
X's log reports that the nvidia drivers were not found. DKMS seems to have done it's job during the install tho.

Tried with Alessios's latest 2.6.31-8.10 as well, and the issue remains.

I'll take a deeper look when I have the time, but won't be for another
few days.
