Again, I apologize for the delay between your reply and my answer.

I tried the set gfxpayload recommended in the diagnostic; nothing improved. 
  I tried removing all the UUID stuff; nothing improved.

The other message I keep getting is:  error file not found.

Would that mean the vmlinuz file?
