I removed all libboost_thread packages and hugin, then reinstalled
hugin. Same thing. So I ran "which hugin" and came up with

$ which hugin
/usr/local/bin/hugin

I verified that everything is in order after cleaning /usr/local.

It's a solid case of pebkac. Sorry to bother!
