Same issue here with Karmic beta (linux 2.6.31-11-generic) on HP Mini
110-1030NR.

I could fix it following the steps described in:
http://art.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8008760

No Internet access nor "live CD" needed. Just a couple of commands on
the terminal.
