[Bug 440666] [NEW] Can't install via Add/Remove due to libgd2-* conflict

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amule

When trying to mark aMule for installation in Add/Remove, it gives this message:
"
Cannot install 'amule'

This application conflicts with other installed software. To install
'amule' the conflicting software must be removed first.

Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict.
"

This is because amule recommends amule-utils, which in turn depends on
libgd2-xpm, which conflicts with libgd2-noxpm, which is already
installed by default in Ubuntu, I am almost sure.

Should this be a bug? How do we handle this?

I would like to be able to tell my clients that they can install aMule
via Add/Remove, of course.

Many blessings.
