Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Once Gwibber has been started using the Indicator Applet, gwibber
iconifies as the Indicator Applet when you click the X, click Gwibber >
Quit, or click the Quit button at the top of the Gwibber window.
Gwibber-daemon stays alive and I keep getting notification bubbles about
Tweets and Dents, even though I don't want to. There should be a way to
close the gwibber-daemon if I don't want to keep getting notifications.

In Empathy, clicking Chat > Quit closes the program, and I will no
longer get instant messages. Gwibber should act the same when clicking
Gwibber > Quit, and probably when clicking the Quit button in the
Gwibber window. Right now, the only way to stop seeing Gwibber
notifications is to kill the gwibber-daemon process. Running up to date
Karmic.
