Exactly the same here. Same graphic card and same problem.

I tried to solve the problem with some combinations of kernel and
drivers. And the results:

kernel 2.6.31-15 + default driver set = freeze
kernel 2.6.31-15 + ubuntu-x-swat set = freeze
kernel 2.6.31-15 + xorg-edgers set = freeze
kernel 2.6.32-rc8 + default driver set = freeze
kernel 2.6.32-rc8 + ubuntu-x-swat driver set = freeze
kernel 2.6.32-rc8 + xorg-edgers driver set = freeze
