[Bug 486803] [NEW] When starting gmplayer I get an error message and no video

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer

When I start gmplayer I get an error message saying
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
then I get no video at all. The playback starts, though, because I can hear the audio.

Strangely, if I start mplayer instead, there is no problem at all.

The video card is a Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache.
