Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: grub2
This bug is one of the most annoying I've ever run into. There is a work
around that I found on Ubuntu. However obviously nothing has been done
to fix this problem; so I'm reporting it today so it can be fixed soon
:)
This bug is ALWAYS repeatable. If you want to confirm it install Windows
7 (Vista will work) update grub and reboot. Windows will try to start
and it'll fail.
NO THE GRUB2 WORKAROUND LISTED IN THE WIKI DOES NOT WORK!
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2)
The solution can be found in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8363434#post8363434
menuentry "Windows 7 (on /dev/sdb1)"
{
insmod ntfs
set root=(hd1,1)
chainloader +1
}
(obviously has to be adjusted according to your Windows partition)
