Interesting!

Have now most likely located the problem.

On my machine(s), Mythfrontend tries to mount /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc,
/dev/sdd and /dev/sde. These disks do not exist in my system.

After a time-out (around 5 minutes), the system comes alive and
responsive again.

Has anyone hardcoded /dev/sdb etc in a file somewhere? 
These disks have never existed in any of these systems.
