[Bug 482700] [NEW] xubuntu splash after upgrade to 9.10

Public bug reported:

I was pretty happy with ubuntu 9.10 x86 upgrade from alt iso and
network.  Even grub worked!

However, the fist time i booted, it opened with the kubuntu splash and
the xubuntu login straight into xubuntu.

I finally found where I can ask which session I'd like, and selected
gnome (my preferred), but still I'm stuck with kubuntu splash and
xubuntu login.  Previously I booted with no splash and gnome login.

I's like to put an end to kubuntu splash and to the xubuntu login
altogether.
