I agree that it is a bug that should be fixed; should have been fixed
before the release.  Meanwhile, I/we need working systems, so the work
around IS needed.

Since I don't contribute much to Ubuntu, I'm reluctant to cast many
stones.

Now, I need to look into why 9.10 broke my power management :-(
