'Recommends' would be way too strong since LDAP support is not at all
required.

A better cross-distribution method would be to display the information
to the user, but it seems the currently coded effort to do this depends
on the user being logged on before displaying the error, which is
remarkably counter-productive in this case :-)

So really, this is a bug about 'fix that error message so that it gets
displayed to the user'.
