Sorry,

The Karmic kernel (2.6.31) was well installed, the problem was that it
didn't replace the menu.lst file (which I had with a customized Win boot
setup).
Therefore, it was using an old kernel (I don't remember in the upgrade
process being asked if I wanted to replace or not the file, but maybe I said
no without noting it)
