Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fail2ban

Clean install of ubuntu 9.10 64 bit.
I installed fail2ban
marty at tux:~$ apt-cache policy fail2ban
fail2ban:
  Installed: 0.8.3-6ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.8.3-6ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.3-6ubuntu2 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I created the jail as I had it configured in 9.04. Issue the command:
fail2ban-client start
starts the client and server, but the server is in zombie mode and then both shut down a few seconds later.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the fail2ban package with the same result.

Cannot get fail2ban to remain running to protect my ssh and vsftp
servers.
