Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upgrade-system

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04, I did a clean make on a
project of my own. The following error occurred:

Failed to open '/usr/lib/pkgconfig/gst-python-0.10.pc': No such file or
directory

I discovered this file existed as a link to python2.6/gst-
python-0.10.pc, however, the python2.6 directory was missing.

I assume the python2.6 directory was removed during the upgrade to 9.10,
but don't know for sure. At any rate, I noticed (using Synaptic) that
python-gst0.10-dev was not installed. I installed the dev package and
was able to complete making my project.

I then removed python-gst0.10-dev (since I didn't think I really needed
it), and I observed the link mentioned in the original error message was
removed. (I was still able to successfully do a clean make of my
project.)

I probably could have simply removed the bad link, but the round-about
approach I took did the job.
