I guess you are just creating an empty document, because the current
Ubuntu Karmic package doesn't have the examples/templates. (I've
reported that in another bug).

I'd really like to fix this, but for now I can't reproduce it and the
backtrace does not mention enough symbols, for some reason. I've even
tried it in the fr_FR.UTF-8 locale. Hopefully the cause will become more
obvious as other people experience it too.
