Sorry, not sure if this is a needless repetition of an existing bug
report.

Tried to perform "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras"

and hit a problem. The GNOME taskbar icon alerted me to the error and I
got here by electing to report this bug as invited by the alerting tool.

For what it's worth, I got to this point after experiencing problems
with getting my wireless to work properly. I have a base ubuntu 64-bit
installation on an Acer TravelMate 7520. This has been patched with the
proprietary Broadcom 02.11 Linux STA wireless driverfor use with
Broadcom's BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, andBCM4322-based hardware.

I further upgraded my ubuntu build by layering KDE on top, giving me
effectively a dual-desktop machine. I am using GDM as my display
manager.

I can get fairly reliable wireless networking from GNOME, but am unable
to get consistently reliable connections under KDE. Really weird, as I
can boot into KDE, get nothing, then log off and log into GNOME and get
a working connection...  Will keep working on this and report what I
find.
