[Bug 381488] [NEW] Brasero changed/modified CD/DVD Burner Drive to no longer read as a boot device (causing a hardware failure).

I was preparing to move my root fs to another partition on the same hard
drive. I booted to the Live CD to make sure my wireless was working in-
case I needed it. (I am not a whiz at Linux yet). After rebooting and
removing the Live CD from my Laptop (confirming that the DVD drive was a
bootable at the time) I logged into my current installation of Jaunty. I
then went to burn Super Grub (supergrubdisk.org) since I am not familiar
with Grub's command line. The plan was to format the first bootable
parition and move my current installation to that partition.

I used a single layer DVD-R for the burn. In Brasero I choose the ISO
from my home folder (as you will see in the log file from the Brasero).
This was my first attempt at burning anything in Linux on this laptop.
During the burn process the DVD burn had an error and stopped. I then
went and decided to try a CD. The CD burn was successful.

I rebooted and tossed the DVD that was unsuccessfully burned and when I
sat down again at my Laptop I noticed I was at the Gnome login for my
current installation. The Super Grub CD did not boot. My laptop
completely skipped the CD boot process. I figured something must have
happen during the burn. After seeing that disk was readable, I decided
to try again. It did not work. I then stuck my Live CD in and that also
no longer was bootable. It was at this point I knew something happen.

I just got my replacement DVD drive today after arguing with Sony and
everything is now working again, including the SuperGrub CD. To me it's
clear that Brasero caused this hardware failure. Before the burn, the
DVD drive was bootable and after the unsuccessful burn of the DVD, the
DVD drive was no longer bootable. This all happened within a time frame
of 20 minutes or less. I was waiting till my replacement drive arrived
to confirm it was the DVD drive that failed. The original damaged drive
was an Optiarc, the replacement drive appears to be Pioneer.

I am using a Sony Vaio Laptop, VGN-FW139E. It is 9 months old and I have
had no issues until now. At this point I am scared to burn anything with
Brasero or anything at all on Linux until someone can provide any advice
or some information on how to avoid an issue like this or prevent it in
the future. Please advise and also let me know any information at all I
can provide that will be helpful in resolving this problem.
