I'm seeing the same problem on a clean install of Intrepid with mt-daapd
version 0.9~r1696.dfsg-2

My mt-daapd log looks the same as Dave's:

I don't know if this is related, by mt-daapd is crashing when I try to
play some (but not all) transcoded flac files.
