Changing to grub-common since the error I can see in the
VarLogDistupgradeTermLog included is:

Setting up linux-image-2.6.30-5-generic (2.6.30-5.6) ...
Running depmod.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30-5-generic
Running postinst hook script /usr/sbin/update-grub.
Updating /boot/grub/grub.cfg ...
grub-probe: error: Cannot stat `/usr/share/images/grub'
No path or device is specified.
Try ``grub-probe --help'' for more information.
User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 1
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.30-5-generic (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

(Although it could be the way the linux-image package is calling it)
