Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fpc

I'd like to ask both maintainers of the Free Pascal and Lazurus packages
to take some time and resolve the following persistent reported
installation issues:

1) The numerous problems reported here and elsewhere with the fp and
Lazurus packages on installation mark problems that should not exist in
a package of this type or maturity. The difficulties in subsequent
upgrades reported also mark the need for a substantial and through
review of each package's structure overall and their joint
'cooperation' (post-install).

2) I am very concerned with the recent installation and library
dependency issue with .DEBs fpc posted on Sourceforge. The mysterious
and unexplained 'break' reported for the libix6 in Hardy def signals
deeper issues remain as this package moves ahead with its own changes
and fixes.

The time has certainly come to put the FPC/Lazarus IDE installation issue to bed at least for Hardy while the new Ubuntu release stabilizes. I admit both being surprised and frustrated by my own experience with installing FPC and Lazarus IDE from the Sourceforge .DEBs as well as the Ubuntu repository packages. I think both the maintainer and the FPC project leaders are well aware of these issues and should make a concerted joint effort to resolve them.

** Affects: fpc (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
