Sounds similar to my problem with Cheese.  When I 
try to record something, the sound is so low I have to turn everything up to hear it at all.  I'm sure if there were options for the sound input and/or recording input, we could simply adjust the volume level.

I'm running An Acer Aspire One ZG5 netbook with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 (amazing combination)
I'm pretty sure the webcam is an Acer Crystal Eye (The Windows driver is Lite-on)
Sound is HDA-Intel (onboard)

I ran what what the other guy was told to run.  Here are the outputs

I've been recording with gnome-sound-recorder 2.26.0 quite well since
discovering this problem with Cheese.  As with the first comment,
Everything works fine in Windows.
