OK, fair enough.  Thank you for reporting back.

FWIW, I had a similar issue where sl-modem-source would complain that it
was already installed and thus failed installation.  Got out of the
catch-22 by deinstalling and reinstalling sl-modem-source.  I think the
following might be a way to reproduce this problem.

1) boot into a kernel where you don't have the kernel headers installed or deinstall all kernel headers
2) uninstall (if necessary) and install sl-modems-source.  

Installation of sl-modem-source should fail because dkms throws an
error.  aptitude will retry and then complain that sl-modem-source is
already installed.
