It is not uploaded because of regression risk.  New major versions of
drivers often include new features which can lead to new, sometimes
serious bugs.  Since 2.7.0 was released late in the Ubuntu development
process there was insufficient time to perform enough validation
testing, so we opted to stick with the presumably more stable 2.6.3
tree, and provide 2.7.0 in this updates ppa for users to opt-in with as
needed.

x-updates is new, which is why you have not heard of it, but we plan to
continue keeping it updated with new updates as they are available and
proven sufficiently stable for general use.
