Thanks for reporting this issue. This is not really a bug in Xubuntu or
Xfce. It is not designed to work the way you are doing it. When you
select "Type a file name", it really means type a file name that exists
in this directory, not change directories or search for a file that is
not in the current directory. If the file name is typed, one letter at a
time, a list of possible matches will be shown. If the letter typed does
not match any name, nothing is shown. If you attempt to change
directories using this dialog, nothing will happen because "/" does not
match any filename.
