** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Compiz working fine. Use an external display for the first time and it
  works after much jiggling. On return to standard laptop screen all
  visual effects are disabled and cannot be re-enabled.

  ProblemType: Bug
  Architecture: i386
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
  Package: xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
  ProcEnviron:
   LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
   SHELL=/bin/bash
  ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.28-11-generic (buildd at palmer) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009
  SourcePackage: xorg
  Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

  Update: Upon re-connecting the external display, after several reboots,
  I was able to re-enable the visual effects and compiz. Whatever changes
  the "display" tool is making to my desktop resolution clearly has an
  affect on compiz and visual effects in general.

  My problem is resolved at present. However the bug still remains.
