David, thanks for your interest in my problem :
a) physical device : I am simply using an integrated card in motherboard that has pluging features with cinch connectors both at the back (typical) and up front but as far as I know there is no difference and I have tried also connection of my mike +headset at the back and it the same status : the mike does not wotk.
b) I used "alsamixer -c0" but no change.

Basically no progress.

Something else I have notice that KMix no more shows entries for input such as mike on both machines where I have mic working and not working.
