By the way, when I reported that the computer does not recognize my Dell
Axim X50, I neglected to add that it is recognized by my former WinXP
Pro OS. These is no hardware problem with the dock, the cable or the
computer. Ubuntu 9.04 does recognize external hard drives and USB memory
connected to the computer. (I receive the 'connected device' icon on the
desktop.

Please help.  I've searched the net for a solution that I can
understand. I've used most OSes since 1965; but I am new to Ubuntu.
