- I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.01 Jaunty. My graphics card is

  Since upgrading, there has been a mysterious rectangle in the top right corner of my screen, below the clock. 
  It's transparent, showing the desktop through it, with a shadow as appears around windows.
  
  It appears on boot, disappears when Visual Effects is turned off, and
  does not reappear when Visual Effects is turned back on -- But reappears
  after reboot.
  
  In the attached screenshot, it looks as if it's associated with the
  panel - it's not. When the panel is moved out of the way, the rectangle
  persists -- it is unrelated to the panel.
