With gdm this annoying issue gone! Even when logout in KDE 4.2..2.
I have both installed in my Kubuntu 9.04. I was KDE user, but now I am using GNOME. But I will keep eyes on KDE.
I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel from xorg-edgers and with UXA enabled.

wayne at Wayne-laptop:~$ uname -a
Linux Wayne-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
wayne at Wayne-laptop:~$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
