Each of the dialogs that you click Next through has useful information on whether the step completed or not.  Sure it would be nice if there was an option for it to simply continue if there are not errors.  Perhaps a specific bug requesting that would be useful.

What would you propose in place of ssh for securely connecting to the remote system?  Or are you talking about running fwbuilder on the local system?  It's not clear from your statement.

As far as remembering, the user account:
select the firewall, click "Firewall Settings ...", select the "Installer" tab, fill in the user name that you want to use on this machine.

As for the password, check into ssh's keyed authentication and an ssh
key agent.
