Another symptom that may or may not be related after a return from
hibernation today the mouse pointer is corrupt - but only on the
external monitor; it's fine when I move it onto my laptop display, it
doesn't clean up even when it changes shape.  I see the bottom few lines
of the cursor OK, but the top of the cursor is an ~10character wide blob
of partially transparent random coloured dots.
