I have a trouble which can be similar with the package, on an intrepid installation:
maximus doesn't really uses the whole surface that is available. 
I tried to move down the window until it recovers its decorations, and then I maximise it, it do not resizes the content (but just removes the decorations).
This didn't happened on a the same configuration, with hardy instead of intrepid.
