cdir, in your case I'm not so sure this is really a bug at all. To me it
looks more like a feature. Let me explain:

What I think happens is that during installation, the installation
program realizes that xorg crashes when the intel driver is used (as you
have reported in bug 339433). Since you obviously want a working xorg,
the only sensible thing to do for the installation program is to use the
more robust (but non-accelerated) VESA driver. This gives you a stable
(but admittedly slow) desktop, but that is better than a crashing
desktop.

Disclaimer: I don't know the details about how the installer works, but
from what you describe it looks like this is what's happening.

>From what I understand from the original reporters, the intel driver has
no problems once it is enabled, and therefore it is a bug if it gets
disabled during installation. What I think might have happened is that
the xorg had an odd crash somewhere during the installation and that
this mechanism would therefore disable the intel driver permanently. If
they are able to reproduce it, though, this is a real bug.
