Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rails

Hi,

if I run rails with a mysql database and set the database encoding to iso-8859-1 in config/database.yml, then
I get the error message

rake db:migrate
...
Character set 'iso-8859-1' is not a compiled character set and is not specified in the '/usr/share/mysql/charsets/Index.xml' file
rake aborted!
Can't initialize character set iso-8859-1 (path: /usr/share/mysql/charsets/)

although that Index.xml containts iso-8859-1 as an alias for latin1.

If I set the encoding to latin1 it works. So something in rails does not
seem to parse that file properly and does not seem to understand the
aliases.

regards
