I have this problem and I never installed compiz.  I am running fully
updated Unubtu 8.10, and this problem surfaced a couple of weeks ago, I
suspect after an update.  I had a fresh install on about Feb. 1 and all
was fine for a few weeks.

F11 sometimes works, but usually the only was to get the title bar back
is to exit Firefox.
