I have a similar problem with Jaunty. I played around on my netbook with
the "switch-desktop" tool and switched from netbook-launcher to normal
desktop, activated compiz, played around, deactivated compiz and went
back to the netbook-launcher. From there on, FUSA only shows a vertical
1px bar instead of a button. I already reinstalled it, purged it,
removed the applet-info from ~/.gnome but without any success.

Interestingly, switching to the "normal desktop" brings back to FUSA
icon ... switching to netbook-remix shows the vertical bar...
