  I installed jaunty-alpha-5 on a laptop with an intel video card.
  On the live cd the driver was detected properly and I had "Visual Effects" enabled.
  I installed it on the hard drive, but after booting up:
  * I had no 3D acceleration ("Visual Effects" was disabled), 
  * I was stuck in with low resolution
  * I could choose just between 1024x768 and 800x600, IIRC.
  * the monitor was not recognized
  
  The driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf was "vesa".
  I replaced "vesa" with "intel", saved the file and restarted gdm (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart).
  
  After gdb restarted:
  * I had 3D acceleration ("Visual Effects" was activated),
  * I had a better resolution (the native resolution for my monitor)
  * I could select between multiple resolutions
  * the monitor was recognized as "Laptop 15''"
  
  
  I expected to see "intel" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf if it was properly detected by the Live CD.
