I have the same issue.

(emerald:13999): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)'in cast to `GdkDrawable'
(emerald:13999): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_cairo_create: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed

It's only happened since upgrading to KDE 4.2 actually. I'm using ubuntu 8.10.
