I also believe its a bug with uxa acceleration on the intel x.org driver. I come to this conclusion because I see the same problem with KDE4.2 using compositing. It even makes my X server crash on a system with 2.5GB of ram. This started after I switched to uxa acceleration, now switching back to exa will report in a few days.
