Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I am using compiz on an Intel 965GM in my Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook. I
get good framerates when I use the benchmark plugin with the frame
limiter disabled, usually over 100 frames per second. I am aware that
this chipset doesn't have vertical sync working, and I have disabled the
"Detect Refresh Rate" option. We also tested this with using nVidia 8600
GT mobile on another system with similar settings.

The frame limiter usually performs 10 frames per second below what you
actually ask it to. For example, setting it to 60Hz will yield about 50
frames per second, not 60. However, I don't think there is anything
specific about the number 10. Setting the frame rate to high values like
160 gave us framerates around 90.

However, I have not experienced a setup where modifying the frame rate
was accurate. Please let me know if I have missed something. It's also
worth noting that I do disable the benchmark plugin and re-enable it, or
even restart compiz (compiz --replace) to ensure I'm not getting highly
averaged frame rate values, since I did notice it was averaged over a
period of time.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
