I have also been noticing the occasional slowdown. Yesterday, however, I
was able to download alpha-2 at around 200 kBps. Since alpha-2 is
relatively recent, you may use that
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/alpha-2/). Unlike the daily-
live images, it also has a bittorrent feed, and that might be quicker.
