Geir,
I've never done ssh before.  With your hints I got it going, added Option ModeDbug True, then did 
xinit X
which locked up the mouse and keyboard.

As you suspected, ssh was still running so I got the Xorg.0.log which is
attached.

It's a bit late here.  I'll try the GPU dump tomorrow.
