Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: grub2
The value of the GRUB_GFXMODE variable in /etc/default/grub seems to
have no effect on gfxterm resolution when update-grub is run.
To replicate, add a 1280x800 splashimage to /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme
and uncomment the GRUB_GFXMODE variable in /etc/default/grub then run
sudo update-grub and reboot. Try a few different screen resolutions -
there's no difference in the appearance of the bootloader.
The 00_header script sets a default value for the variable but nothing
ever seems to use it!
** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
