I have Hardy heron too, and i can't logoff from system, but... if i
click logoff twice, then it work.

Step by step: click logoff (or shutdown computer) -> (system still
running) -> click logoff -> system do all preparations and lofoff
(shutdown)

to Scott Ritchie: i have not 8.10 and 9.04 installed, and can't check
