Thanks John, the tearing issue is a known problem on Jaunty which needs
a kernel fix, available in 2.6.31.  The fix is too complicated to safely
backport to Jaunty via the SRU process unfortunately.

Whether you update your kernel or not, could you do one other thing for
us, and test to see if this bug is still present in Karmic?  If so, we
will forward the bug upstream and ensure it gets resolved.
